“Matar um homem não é defender uma doutrina, é matar um homem”: notas sobre a estratégia argumentativa de Sébastien Castellion no caso Miguel Servet

The writings of Sébastien Castellion take as the main reason the punishment of Miguel Servet in Geneva in 1553. His arguments turn mainly against the punishment of the called heretic with death and, consequently, against John Calvin, reformer who had important performance in the condemnation of the Spanish doctor. This article presents the arguments present in some Castellion books, considered one of inaugurators the idea of religious tolerance and freedom of expression.Os escritos de Sébastien Castellion tomam como motivo principal a condenação à morte de Miguel Servet, em Genebra, em 1553. Seus argumentos se voltam principalmente contra a punição do chamado herege com a pena capital e, consequentemente, contra João Calvino, reformador que teve importante atuação na sentença condenatória do médico espanhol. O presente artigo expõe a argumentação presente em alguns livros de Castellion, considerado um dos inauguradores da ideia de tolerância religiosa e liberdade de expressão
